SOGS 202 - QUESTIONING POLITICS & ECONOM
This course includes a critical analysis of the complex dynamics, processes, and institutions that constitute the political community. A political community comprehends, among other things, subjects articulated into particular and diverse social relations emanating from the actions of the institution we call the state. Examination of issues related to the different political and economic systems, as well as what should be expected by citizens in a democratic polity. Analysis of the impact on politics of contemporary phenomena such as neoliberalism, globalization, international relations, and threats to the environment. The course is competency-based and encourages the responsible use of technology and information. This course will develop primary competencies in Critical Thinking and Ethics and Diversity, through the analysis and reflection on the topics and problems mentioned above, that will permit the student to evaluate and propose solutions in regards to them. El curso estudia críticamente las dinámicas complejas, los procesos y las instituciones que constituyen una comunidad política. La comunidad política comprende, entre otras cosas, a sujetos articulados en relaciones sociales particulares y diversas que emanan de las prácticas de esa institución que llamamos estado. Analiza asuntos relacionados con los diferentes sistemas políticos y económicos, así como de lo que debe esperarse por parte de un ciudadano en una comunidad política democrática. Examina el impacto sobre la política de fenómenos contemporáneos como el neoliberalismo, la globalización, las relaciones internacionales, así como las amenazas al medioambiente. En el curso se contempla desarrollar como competencias primarias las de Pensamiento Crítico y la Ética y Diversidad, a través del análisis y reflexión sobre los contenidos y asuntos señalados más arriba, que permitan al estudiante evaluar y proponer soluciones a los mismos.
